TAPETRONIC

Tapetronic c'est Alexis Malbert et vice-versa ou plutôt auto-reverse dans son cas. Depuis 1999, il détourne, recycle et transforme des cassettes audio et des magnétophones pour en faire des machines à jouer de la musique. Inventeur, entre autre, de la Scratchette, la cassette qui scratche, ou de la Vibro-K7, du Phone-cutter, il agit directement sur des dispositifs mécaniques permettant de produire une musique curieuse et déviante pour dancefloor en pente.

Traficage au rayon bricolant : tiges de ferraille dans la table de mixage, pas forcément filetées et pinces croco multicolores, ça rentre la sortie dedans. C’est pas du tout fait pour mais ça n’empêche. Un électrophone, plutôt plastique, vive l’explosif, mais renforcé pour encaisser. Tant que ça tient. Pas forcément des disques et même certains en métal, et d’autres. Au contraire des capteurs aussi qui se collent là où ils tombent, ou pas, pas toujours. Sur et avec des ressorts, en revanche. Commencé en 2008, ce projet juxtapose des improvisations de différents musiciens expérimentaux. Chaque session filmée est recomposée au montage, les séquences focalisent sur les détails des instruments et la gestuel des musiciens. La mise au point est bloquée à quelques centimètres, l’espace environnant disparaît, la caméra devient une machine à décortiquer la fabrication du son.

FREIBAND Frans de Waard

Frans de Waard (1965) has been producing music since 1984. First as Kapotte Muziek, but throughout the years, he also worked as Beequeen (with Freek Kinkelaar), Goem (with Roel Meelkop & Peter Duimelinks, both of whom are also a member of Kapotte Muziek these days), Zebra (with Roel Meelkop) and such solo projects as Freiband, Shifts as well as his own name. He has worked for Staalplaat (1992-2003) and since 1986 as a reviewer for his own publication Vital, now only Vital Weekly, an online music magazine, which has been the online source for underground music since 1995. In February 2007 he played various solo concerts as Goem|FDW in Japan, as part of a package tour with Pan Sonic. Frans de Waard also likes to play sets of improvised music with whoever is available, just as he did with people like Guiseppe Ielasi, Jaap Blonk, Howard Stelzer, Roel Meelkop, Andrew Liles, Radboud Mens and the mayor of his home city Nijmegen. In 2008 film maker Harrie Timmermans made a small documentary about his work with Kapotte Muziek under the title ‘What You See Is What You Hear’. He has given workshops and lectures at various places, such as Extrapool, the art academy of Maastricht en ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Glinka Conservatorium in Moscow and Lithuania. With Scott Foust he formed the duo The Tobacconists in 2009 and with Wouter Jaspers the duo Ezdanitoff in 2010.

Maybe murkier and even more abstract (we're pretty sure he's playing guitar, but we don't hear any back-porch banjo here) than his debut, The Air In Pieces features eight tracks, each one for the most part a gentle, slowly unfolding ballet of dense, deep drones and whispering vibrations from below. It's the music of subterranean behemoths, Lustmord-like whale calls, sleeping, dreaming, but very physically present. Material that could perhaps be spooky, but in Mullen's hands all this low-register distortion is bent towards light-filled blissfulness. We're very pleased. MÛ

« Mû » est un ensemble oscillant entre polyphonies contemporaines, énergies du Rock et expérimental. Le répertoire de « Mû » est constitué de mouves : diminutif de "mouvement", en référence directe aux mouvements d'une sonate ou d'une symphonie, aussi bien qu'aux mouvements de masse que l'on retrouve dans certains corps liquides ou gazeux tels que les rivières, les océans, les nuages... ou bien même des mouvements plus abstraits: Mouvements de l'âme, de l'affect... Influencés par les modes à transpositions limités d'Olivier Messiaen, de leurs caractères mélodiques et harmoniques jusqu'à leurs qualités philosophiques, symboliques et spirituelles liées à leurs principes de symétrie et d'ordre, chaque "mouves" est issu d'un processus particulier, soumis à un ensemble de règles et postulats valables uniquement pour celui-ci. "Elusifs, ils opèrent par successions d'étapes enchevêtrées en flux continu. L'équilibre trouvé entre la rigueur des passages écrits et les improvisations insaisissables donne naissance à une oeuvre lyrique et hypnotique d'une clarté étonnante. Beaux, mystiques et sensibles, ces "Mouves" explorent avec passion les systèmes de variation d'un matériau et les ramifications qui composent l'unité de l'oeuvre. Un ensemble fascinant dont le résultat est supérieur à la somme de ses parties" (Thödol).

We can’t always promise exactly who is going to play which instruments, but usually you can expect to hear cello, trombone, a bit of electronics, maybe some tuba, a touch of clarinet, plus e.g. recorder and other flutes, double bass, alpine horn, voice, bird calls, a few toys, and whatever else they come across that might produce some type of sound.
We also know that while it is true that Bristophe enjoy being on stage, their definition of just where that is appears to be a somewhat different one, as they tend to wander all around the room, playing behind or in the midst of the audience; or furthermore to disappear behind curtains or onto the hallways.
We do know for certain, though, that they improvise.
Bristophe is half Swiss living in Hamburg (Germany), half French living in Geneva (Switzerland). Occasionally both halves meet in one place, and that’s when sound happens: sometimes extremely loud (even to them), sometimes so soft that you have to bend your head and dilate your eardrums to notice anything; sometimes far away, and sometimes as close as a few inches from you.
But whatever happens, it sparkles like a shimmering fire.

Rubén Patiño, also known as Pato, works in the field of computer music,
an activity he combines with incursions in the installation field. Patiño’s works
are characterised by an algorithmic compositional style that is both irreverent
and hyperenergetic. He has performed solo across Europe, as well as collaborated
with Roc Jiménez de Cisneros, Olivier Di Placido and Seiji Morimoto. Originally
from Barcelona, he is currently pursuing a masters degree in Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague.

Guitariste bruxellois actif dans le milieu rock et la musique improvisée belge. Auteur du projet Jesus is my son, il fait également partie du trio K-Branding et a enregistré plusieurs albums de musique improvisée ou acousmatique. Il est le fondateur du label FF HHH et l'un des piliers de l’asbl Mandaï Distribution.

Avec Jesus is my son, Grégory tente d’approcher l’idée d’immortalité, de rendre chaque évènement éternel. Jesus is my son relève d'une volonté de tristesse, de solitude et de puissance. Il est un long voyage où chaque note est une idée d’éternité. Sous son propre nom, Grégory propose une musique plus libre, une musique qui laisse la part belle à l’improvisation et à l’écoute des sons.

En février, le label FF HHH sortit le second album intitulé ‘1914-1918’ de Jesus is my son. Ce même mois a vu aussi la sortie de album 'Lorsque les hommes épouseront des anges' de Grégory Duby sur le label Young Girls Records.

Andreas Trobollowitsch is a Vienna based electroacoustic musician, composer and sound artist. He studied musicology and temporarily jazz in Vienna and Paris (thesis about the spatial approach in the compositions of Stockhausen and Cage). In his works he uses mainly tapes, no-inputmixer, objects, prepared musical instruments and field recordings. Recently he is focusing on souninstallations and conceptual compositions. Composition Grants from the Arts Division of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Radio broadcasts: ORF-Zeitton, Deutschlandradio Kultur,... Since 2007 he is working together with Johannes Tröndle as nörz. In 2009 they released their first album on the berlin based label schraum. The second one with acker velvet was realeased on the warsaw label Monotyp records in 2012. He toured and performed in Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Chile, Argentina and China.
